Description:
Technology is driving today’s criminal activity faster than most agencies can keep up with — and this course is designed to close that gap. From Snapchat and Cash App to encrypted messaging apps and cryptocurrency, this training gives law enforcement a practical, real-world look at the tools criminals are using every day and, more importantly, how investigators can legally and effectively fight back.
Students will learn how to navigate search warrants for social media companies and private entities, understand the differences between platforms like WhatsApp and Signal, and gain a working knowledge of cryptocurrency, the dark web, and modern digital communication trends impacting investigations nationwide. This course also breaks down how phone pings work, what information cellular providers maintain, how those providers differ, and the proper verbiage needed to obtain critical records through legal process.
Attendees will also explore current trends in credit card fraud, skimming operations, and digital payment applications while learning investigative techniques that can immediately be applied in the field. Beyond theory, this course provides officers with valuable law enforcement resources, investigative portals, and practical tools that continue assisting long after the class ends — including methods to identify suspects tied to unknown phone numbers and strategies for streamlining search warrant requests to major tech companies.
Whether you are a patrol officer trying to stay ahead of evolving criminal trends or an investigator looking to sharpen your digital investigative skills, this course delivers actionable tactics, current intelligence, and real-world techniques that officers can put to work the very next day.
